Anyone here dealing with peripheral neuropathy?

I am suffering from what I believe is Neuropathy.... Have told my doctor on a phone apt, and he did not seem to concerned... When I bend my toes I feel like there is paper in between them, and they are numb, it started with my toes, and now seems to have progressed to my ankles. I am not in any pain from this, and do not have diabetes. Just wondering if this can become a real problem and if anything I can do about it??

Hi, I too have numb toes and half of my feet on both. I have diabetes and I also take a chemo pill. I'm thinking about acupuncture too. Glad it helped for you, and great you don't have diabetes! I go to a Podiatrist every 2 months for toenail clipping and she and other DR.s have told me nothing I can do for numbness, what a shame and that's depressing too!! Good luck to you I hope they do not get any worse!!

Hello @sheilarob116, Welcome to Connect. Your story sounds a lot like mine which started close to 30 years ago in my late 40s. I posted my story in another discussion here - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/310341/. The best thing you can do for yourself is to learn as much as you can about your condition and what treatments are available to help relieve any symptoms that might popup.

Here are a few sites if you want to learn more about neuropathy:
-- Neuropathy Commons: https://neuropathycommons.org/
-- Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy: https://www.foundationforpn.org/understanding-peripheral-neuropathy/

Do you plan to setup an appointment with a neurologist to get a diagnosis?

I would talk to your doctor again. My neuropathy also started with just numbness, now I have pain in my toes and upper foot. If your doctor still doesn't pay attention, I would insist on a referral to a neurologist. The neurologist will be a better choice to determine what the problem is. For me, it was a neurologist that diagnosed my neuropathy and manages my meds.
Don't let your doctor dismiss your symptoms. It could be something else. I would want to know.
