Hello @secondhandrose and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I am so deeply sorry for your diagnosis. Surely, this is an emotional time for you. It is good you have reached out for support from others who understand what you are going through.
I want to see if @pugpeople might be able to join you as she has mentioned having cervical cancer.
How are you holding up and what are you doing to preserve your mental health through this interim time? What does your support system look like?
@secondhandrose, hearing that you have cancer is scary. But knowing that your cancer is rare is especially challenging to hear. Primary malignant melanomas of the female genital tract are rare. Melanoma is more commonly thought of being a type of skin cancer, but it can also appear on internal organs.
I see that you are continuing with diagnostic testing and getting a PET scan next week. Has melanoma been confirmed? Have you discussed staging or treatment options yet?
@secondhandrose I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in 2019. Hearing the word "cancer" was one of the most frightening things I've ever heard said to me. The shock I felt tops even the heartbreak of the day I learned my husband (now ex-husband) wanted a divorce.
You have come to a good place for emotional support, advice, and information. We aren't medical professionals however the wealth of experience among the members of the Gynecological Cancer Support Group can help to carry you through this frightening time.
Your scheduled PET scan is coming up this week. Do you have an appointment already scheduled with your oncologist to discuss the results of the PET Scan?
