Hello I am 44 y/o male and I was diagnosed with a PNET about 2 months ago. It is located on the tail of the pancreas. I am scheduled to have surgery next week to have a distal pancrectomy and splenectomy. Of course I am terrified. Can you tell me how your surgery went? What I should expect? My Dr’s have given information but it’s best coming from someone who has actually experienced the procedure. I am aware everyone’s recovery is different. And by the way the dr did tell me that about 40% of patients after surgery and removal of the drainage tube will afterwards experience drainage. She called it “pancreatic juices.” Any info will help thank you.

Hi there-

I totally agreed with @sushie's reply. My pNET was located in the head/neck junction of the pancreas. But my recovery was the same as Sushie's. The only difference for me was that I had trouble "waking up" my bladder/bowel functions for about 10 days after surgery. Small concern though compared to the pNET tumor. I also had the drain and mine was removed on day 3. It's not horrible, just annoying. The nurses will measure the output and when it decreases, they can remove it. I am wishing you a speedy recovery! Please keep us posted. Above all, please stay encouraged and know that you have a nationwide support system of fellow pNET tumor patients at your fingertips if you have any questions.

Warmest Regards,
Sherry 🙂
