TKR revision using Verasense Technology vs Traditional Revision

This is a hard question to ask as most people do not know what I am talking about but there is a device called a VERASENSE that aids in your surgeon’s decision-making about soft tissue adjustments and implant position. Unfortunately I am told that the Mayo clinic does not use this technology. Just this last June I underwent left TKR that went very badly and I knee instantly my tissues were not balanced. My surgeon does not want to correct so I am forced to find another surgeon and I want to get this right for the second time but the travel to find a surgeon who uses this techonlogy has proved daunting and expensive! I am closest to Mayo clinic 3.5 hours each way and trust them from a previous complicated surgery but they only use traditional TKR revision. I have little knowledge of how without technology they can balance tissues within a knee. Does anyone have any experience with this area of Verasense vs traditional revision? Or recommendation of a amazing Tkr revision specialist at Mayo?

Hi @achy71, It's been a couple of years since I had my right knee replaced at Mayo Clinic Rochester but I am completely satisfied and had a great surgeon (Dr. Daniel Saris) and care team. I also have a few old friends from my previous job that had knee replacements by other Mayo Clinic Rochester surgeons that worked out great for them. My surgeon didn't do the robotic surgery but one of my other friends did have the robotic surgery.

I did a search of Connect and didn't find anyone posting about having the procedure with Verasense technology. Hopefully members with experience will share it with you. I did find that Mayo Clinic has a new tool for their orthopedic surgeons that sounds really good also.

Thank you so much for this information, I did look at the article unfortunately it said its not used much for revision surgery yet anyways, luckily for me though I have another knee that is needing to be done shortly. I wonder though if Mayo clinic in Jacksonville is using the technology yet?

It certainly might be worth giving Mayo Clinic Jacksonville a call to ask if they use Verasense and/or augmented reality tool with knee replacements. You can find the contact numbers here:

I called two months ago and they don't use verasense but I am going to call about the Augmented reality tool because even though it says not with revisions the first surgery was 1.5 years ago so just maybe now. Its worth a call. Right.... but honestly I wish the receptionists were more helpful with the technology questions, I have called a few times and they just kind of push me off. Which is strange because I have had surgery at Mayo clinic before... Thank you so much John for reaching out...
