Radioactive iodine ablation
Good day
I am due for a 2nd round of RAI treatment. I've read that radiation may cause secondary cancer. What are the chances that RAI caused more/new malignant lympnodes in my neck?
What are my other options for treatment?
Thank you for your help.

Jolanda, can you share a bit more about yourself? What type of thyroid cancer do you have? Not all types of thyroid cancer respond to radioactive iodine treatment. Is this a recurrence?
Hi Colleen
Thank you for your reply. I had a thyroidectomy February 2022, and they removed malignant lympnodes.
Two weeks ago they removed 38 lympnodes and 8 of them had tumors. The report states metastatic papillary carcenoma.
I had RAI after my thyroidectomy.
The doctor doesn't know if the lympnodes are old and he missed it with the first operation or that it's newly formed malignant lympnodes.
I am cautious to undergo RAI again since I've learned it can lead to secondary cancer but I need expert advice.
Kind regards
