CTX is a marker of osteoclast activity and is used to assess the level of bone resorption. The markers are used to evaluate and provide treatment to those with metabolic bone diseases like osteoporosis.
(Osteoclasts are cells that degrade bone during vs Osteoblasts which are cells that form new bones and grow and heal existing bones).
