Prolia

Does Prolia cause rash and UTI's? The endocrinologist recommends forte and prolix. I will not do forte as I don't want to inject everyday. Also will my calcium levels increase with prolia? What's better Prolia or Reclast?

@gastrogirl

The actual specialist at Mayo said it to me. Told me flu symptoms and chills and bone aches and to spend first few weeks in bed and not to go anywhere. I looked up reviews of the drugs and found almost everyone said the same thing. It is great to hear the other side so TY!

No @gastrogirl that is Reclast, which is given just once a year by infusion. The daily shots of Tymlos or Foreo which grow bone, do not have these effects.

i will be taking my first Prolia injection on Dec. 15th. Very nervous. My endocrinologist insists that some of the side effects I'm concerned about he has NEVER seen. Has anyone had the following after Prolia injections: High blood pressure, high cholesterol, uti's, thyroid problems, severe skin problems, weight gain, or any other major problems. I have taken Fosomax on and off since 2010 and my bone density is at -4.4. I did fall in August on concrete during a walk and did not break or fracture anything. My hands and chin took the fall. was that luck or is the osteoporosis not so bad? I fell flat on my stomach. The Dr. feels I'm high risk for fractures. He wanted me on Forteo (self injections) daily and after that start Prolia. I can't handle that, so I accepted the Prolia. Please share your experiences. Thanks.

I used Forteo for two years. I too was afraid of the daily injections and potential side effects. I am a very health conscious person and adverse to taking medication but after a long failed attempt to restore my bone naturally, I felt I had to do something and for me, Forteo was the best choice. The injection hurt a little but honestly, it was not a big deal. I found that a distraction while injecting was helpful such as playing music and singing along. Or a meditation of sorts. Seriously, these really helped me to not to feel it as much. My spine density increased as a result of the drug for which I'm grateful. Something I could not do naturally by exercise, nutrition and lifestyle though I gave it my all for a full two years before realizing that if I didn't do something medically, I'd be in big trouble. The other side benefit was that once I was on it for a couple of months and saw that I had no side effects, I relaxed a bit about my bones. I wasn't obsessed and worried all the time. I felt like I was doing something productive and that release of worry for two years was such a blessing. Honestly, I wish I could go back on it as you continually need to address bone loss and the alternatives are not that great.

Ok. he did tell me that it was the daily that had the side effects. Because I may have to do down to less than daily until tolerated. Maybe they are wrong and or confused. Thanks for making me less scared of it. Sounds like everyone here did just fine with it.

What daily medication? Bisphosphonates? This seems to be confused information. You can start Tymlos at a lower dose and ramp up and any side effects go away quickly. The shots are no big deal. Fractures are.

I just had my dexa, bone density test, a couple days ago. It showed my bone density grew over last year. I have had 3 prolia injections over the last 2 years with 0 side effects. I also started taking collegen and calcitiol. Calcitriol is typically produced in our bodies with the uvb rays. It's simply a mega vitamin D. At least from everything I have read about it. I'm not sure if the bone growth is from one or all of these things but I will continue on this path...
