Osteoporosis and high calcium levels

Might I ask, if someone has high calcium levels, they can still have bone loss? This has been my situation. They just told me to start meds and my DEXA showed very severe soft bones that came on suddenly. After reading your post, it seems like parathyroid should be looked at? They did only labs and urine and told me it was fine. Was this the case with anyone else? How did you get an ultrasound and did that show something that labs alone did not? TY and I wish you all the best.

In my opinion you should definitely try to determine if you have hyperparathyroidism. I had all the tests you mentioned and had high calcium numbers but was told I did not have hyperparathyroidism. I was advised to proceed with anabolic meds. I was not comfortable taking the drugs and was not convinced that I did not have hyperparathyroidism. I got a telemedicine appointment with a prominent endocrine surgeon who after retesting me said I did have hyperparathyroidism and offered surgery. I continued to research the situation and have received another confirmation from a surgeon (mentioned positively in these posts) that I have hyperparathyroidism. My next step is to try and get an ultrasound of my thyroid for additional information. Your blood tests are the main determining factor. Good luck!
