I don't have anyone advising me and want to try it myself, so I don't yet have a specific recommendation. (except that I want to try acidophilus)

My PCP as well as my infectious disease doctor (from a terrible bout of salmonella) both told at separate time, for separate conditions, to take Florastor. I researched it, and it seemed to indeed be the best.

Also, I subscribe to consumerlab.com, which is a doctor who gathers supplements and tests them to see if they really contain what they say they do. It's an eye opener. He also says, e.g., what to look for in a specific type of supplement, what medications it can interfere with, whether you shouldn't take it if you have certain conditions, etc. He also gathers studies about the supplement, and links to them, and explains what they're saying in plain English. He then says what his Top Picks are. It's been very, very helpful to me over the past few years.
