It was a pain management doctor. I got a list of pain management and rheumatologist doctors from my insurance company, and just sat calling them until I found one that 1) used doppler, and 2) drained the bursae before injecting.
When I found one, I got my PCP to give me the referral. It was painful having them drained, but only took a few minutes, and when he was done, I began to have a little bit of relief. Then over the next few weeks, the pain subsided more and more.
I found out about the draining after I don't know how many hours of researching on the internet.
I know bursitis can be very painful. I hope you get relief soon.
