3 month post op hysterectomy spotting

Posted by janoh @janoh, Dec 6, 2022

I had a robotic/laproscopic hysterectomy 3 months ago(9/12) including removal of the tubes and ovaries. Reason for this was I had some post menopausal bleeding issues.
I had a very good recovery. I feel good with some hot flashes. Problem is: yesterday I noticed some light pink discharge when I wiped myself.
Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

Hi there! Perhaps you've already checked in with your provider/surgeon/nurse? You could give them a call, or if you have a patient portal, you can send a message that way. They will know whether or not your symptoms are part of your recovery, so I encourage you to contact them. Good luck!

@janoh. I agree with @valentiaz If you haven't already contacted your doctor that's the place to start. If it were me and I had a pinkish discharge after a radical hysterectomy that you described I would be contacting my doctor and getting their recommendation for what it is. Will you do that today?

I had my hysterectomy on August 17 and had some spotting on Thanksgiving Day. (I've been having chemo and vaginal brachytherapy, so my situation is different from yours.) I told the nurse practitioner, and she did a pelvic exam 5 days later, but couldn't see what had bled. She said my vaginal cuff hadn't finished healing. She didn't seem super-concerned, but told me to tell her immediately if it happened again, which so far, it hasn't. I'll be interested to hear what your doctor/nurse says.

Thank you! I have my follow up in January with my doctor. I was going to wait until then…but I guess it won’t hurt to send him a message.

Yes, exactly! Glad you're seeing your doctor, but also glad you can send a message before January. Let us know how you're doing, okay?

I’m in this same situation and today I contacted my gynecologist to see what is going on. I’d like to know what answer did you have if you would be willing to share it with me. Wish you the best!🌹

@sandydamn Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. By same situation do you mean you have spotting? Did you have a hysterectomy and if yes how many months are you post-operative?

I had a hysterectomy in 2019 for gynecological cancer. I’m doing well now and have had no evidence of disease. Every time I have an appointment with my gynecological provider including at 6 weeks post operative I am asked if I have had any recent spotting or bleeding.

I am 5weeks post-op (full hysterectomy and lymphanectomy) and having some light spotting of mixed pinkish fluid and clear to pale yellow fluid. Reached out to the doctor and waiting to hear back. A couple of weeks ago Ihad full on gushing that mimicked incontinence. I was told it was peritoneal fluid and that I needed to rest more and that it would stop spontaneously. It did a few days later until this recent spotting. I'll keep you posted on her response and the spotting. Hugs to you.

@lmontem2 Have you heard back from your doctor yet today?

REPLY

Not yet. They are closed on weekends so I will probably hear back tomorrow. I did talk to a friend of mine who is an ob/gyn. She said the spotting could be from granular tissue which forms as the vaginal cuff heals. Hoping that's all it is!
