Chronic abdominal pain after cystectomy and or inguinal hernia repair

Posted by quark @quark, Feb 8, 2020

Have had chronic abdominal pain for 5-6 years now, and docs have tried meds, radio freq ablation, sacral plexus injections, local injections, spinal cord stimulator, etc.. Now this one, doctor, wants to try Stim Wave, and anybody have any feedback or info on it? It's relatively new, but I am tired of being a Guinea pig for failures.

So sorry. You have really been through it. Hypnosis is not magic, not the cure all..but can be a powerful treatment for pain. helps the mind "re-process" pain. Good luck in your healing. Jan

Thanx for your reply, but unfortunately we cannot afford tapes as we are on a very tight budget. And acupuncture is not covered by Medicare.

Most likely genitofemoral nerve is entrapped in mesh. Would get ultrasound of inguinal hernia mesh area to see if nerve is "enlarged". A good hernia surgeon can take out the mesh and try again without doing any damage. Now, if you had laparoscopic mesh placement then many will not do it as that would be more technically challenging.

It was done laparoscopilly back in April of 2015. I had a cystectomy in February of 2013, and really not sure as to when my pain started, but the oncology urologist and general surgeon both said it would be like opening a swarm of bees, and both said no. The pain is right next to my stoma, and one time they injected me with local and a steroid, under guided ultrasound, but that just made it a bit worse. But thanx anyway.

I have 3 recalled bard products in my LLQ abdominal area from 2 past hernia repairs(plug and patch). I have constant pain, discomfort and various problems because of them. I am trying to do my own research as to what could be done to rectify this. This isn't an "awareness" as my latest general surgeon had stated(such a nice word)...this is VERY DEBILITATING! AND IT'S MESSING UP MY LIFE!!!
Looking for any and all input as to where to look for a solution!
Thanks to all.
Be well

Hi Phil, Have you explored possibility of Abdominal Cutaneous nerve entrapment syndrome. Right below lower right rib cage. You can do the CARNETT test on your own. It all can be found on YouTube. Jeff

My pain and difficulties are on the lower left side(LLQ) where i had the 2 previous repairs(Inguinal hernia repairs). Through the mass tort litigation team, i have been notified of the 3 recalled products in there. These are "Bard" products. I am now in the process of getting more scans of the area, Ultra sound, CT...to see what we can see! My current general surgeon, has stated she would refer me to a hernia specialist. The conversation about removing any old, recalled mesh products...brought up the possibility of doing more harm than good... I mean, these products are made to become incorporated into the surrounding tissues... thus making it a meat and mesh mess...so to speak! So, yes, with that in mind...just how would any surgeon go about taking it out? And then repairing the old hernia that would be prevalent again...?
I was told by the mass tort team handling these recalled products, that if i do get one more surgery to correct things... i would then be compensated? This sounds really...odd...to say the least! I will continue to research this all...
