@mopeede - I also had my gallbladder removed some years ago.
I remain very cautious with fats, especially animal fats. I eat smaller portions with no visible fat.
It will definitely help you to see a dietician.
I try to eat proteins with each meal- it keeps you satisfied longer. I tolerate dairy products and like cottage cheese and yoghurt. However, if I eat cheesecake I will definitely feel sick!
A registered dietitian can help you plan a diet eating foods that you enjoy.
I had gallbladder surgery 5 days ago , I have a really bad pain also on my back more on right side where the shoulder blade is. radiated down my waists. Reg breathing is ok but deep breath hurt . I read they inflate the stomach, shoulder n back with air to see the organs better. I don’t know if the pain in my back is air, I’m applying heating pad
Same here and im 10 momfhspozt up feels like surgical clips on my skin. Sometimes feel like a hot liquid sensation. Got a ct acanthus and doesnt show anything 🙁
@cuevaspatsy -
Do you have nausea too or pain only? Are you able to eat?
Gallbladder pain often appears in the areas that you mention.
Just call the surgeon’s office and tell them. It’s possible they may want to check you to make sure you don’t have a tiny stone remaining- or it may be remnant air or swelling from the surgery. They would know.
Hello there.
I am three weeks out from a lap cholecystectomy. I have lost 22 pounds and was not overweight to start. I have no appetite and have horrible indigestion and burning in my esophagus. Any time I eat, applesauce, bananas, rice, toast, chicken I feel nauseated and as though I swallowed a brick, which causes me discomfort and distress. Any one else with these symptoms?
I had the surgery because of a suspicious polyp .
I had very similar issues after my gallbladder was removed in 10/2021. It took my body 3 months to acclimate not having a gallbladder. Do you also have GERD ? You may need some sucralfate for a few months. You are now dealing with more bile reflux. I also developed insomnia and anxiety die to surgery and no appetite.
Hi Jackie,
I feel sorry for anyone who is having these symptoms. I went to the Emergency Department , they diagnosed gastritis and gerd and prescribed Sucralfate and omeprazole.
I too am anxious. Have you found anything that helps?
I had gallbladder removed on 10/2021. It took my body 3 months to get my appetite back. I'm eating fine now. I had Gastritis that same year. I was on 40 mg of protonix twice a day for 1 month. I now take 40 mg for GERD. For sleep I take 2.5 mg of ambien. For anxiety I take 25 mg of sertraline.
I had my gallbladder removed by laparoscopy in 2012 after having repeated pain in the right upper quadrant especially after eating. Initially they did a HIDA scan and I was told that the function was within the norm. However, over time, things seem to be deteriorating and I still had pain and finally some "sludge" showed on a CAT scan so they did the surgery. Since I had the laparoscopy I found out after the fact that use clamps rather than sutures in the surgery.
Since it has now been a little over 10 years since the surgery I believe getting rid of my gallbladder was a mistake overall but it looks like the medical authorities would have advised it over time no matter what. Since I have had the surgery I often STILL get pain in the upper right quadrant which may or may not due to scar formation from the inflammation of having the surgery done and having clips put in as well. I also seem bloated almost always and have gained a significant amount of weight since then. I also have developed many allergies to many foods I consumed before that time and as a result now have chronic sinus problems which sometimes result in sinus infections. I also now have been diagnosed with GERD and more recently Barrett's esophagus. When I eat I feel like the food does not digest as it should and since I am now prescribed omeprazole indefinitely I believe the situation is exacerbated. I believe that having stomach acid is essential to good digestion and after taking omeprazole I see that my B12 and iron levels are lower than they should be. I have done extensive reading on this topic and many EXPERTS say the problem now is actually too little acid for proper digestion making the stomach work harder than it should cause a spray or pepsin which would otherwise be non-existent.
Interestingly I have a good friend who had her gallbladder removed many, many years ago and since she had and open surgery they used sutures rather than clips to finish the surgery. She has no bloating, has not gained weight, etc. Her dr. , however, did prescribe ox bile salts for her to take indefinitely since she evidently had ongoing diarrhea well after her surgery. I may look into taking these salts myself to see if they can help with overall digestion and absorption of nutrients.
Also per my reading some people have a spasm in their sphincter of Oddi which is labeled as dysfunction of the sphincter of Oddi. This spasm can actually be the source of pain in the upper quadrant as well. If one has that, there are some prescriptive medications one can try to quell the spasm but if that does not work sometimes a sphincterotomy is recommended.
I am so sorry you are having problems. It is good to talk to people here and hear at least some have gotten better. I am almost 4 weeks post op. I still cannot eat much of anything. Rice, applesauce, bananas toast. Lost quite a bit of weight. No appetite, horrible epigastric pain, caused from what I suspect is as you say too much acid. Went to the Ed they say I have gastritis. Never had any problems before.
Honestly if I had been appropriately apprised of these side effects I would have never had the surgery.
Yes I am still sore have anxiety and wake up with gnawing pain every morning.
What a nightmare!
