yes, two years ago. I had to convince my doctor that something was going on and it wasn't old age alone. I am a very active woman who went from osteopenia to osteoporosis very quickly. Through urine tests and blood work, then an ultrasound of my parathyroids, it was discovered that one of the glands was over active and pulling calcium out of my bones. I did start Fosomax because my bone loss was sugnificant. After one year, my dexa scan showed that my bones were strengthening. I'm due for another dexa scan early next year. As for the surgery, I was happy to have it and recovered quickly. Good luck,

Thank you for replying. An ultrasound showed one of my glands to be slightly abnormal. I am having surgery Jan 20th. I have been on Prolia for three years. Before that Fosomax. I’ll let you know how everything goes.

I'm seriously contemplating parathyroid surgery so I was happy to find your positive post about having the surgery. I too had a big drop in bone density, now considered severe. Currently not on any bone drugs until I sort out my current situation and surgery decision.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience as it's very helpful and encouraging.
