I had that and immediately had all the toes operated on to have put pins in them all. It’s wonderful! I saw my mother suffer so much from hammer toes and in the end it took her mobility because she felt constantly off balance….because she was!
I also have Ehlers DAnlos syndrom…EDSh w hypermobility, so I long ago began wearing Fit Flop Shoes ,,,,Amazon….and also their home page. They are so wonderful because they have a wobble board in the heel and that keeps you amazingly so from tipping. It increases your balance and you “imprint’” your weight distribution and corrects the differential from one side of your body to another. For ex my left leg is much longer than my right but as long as I have Fit Flops on , it is totally unnoticeable and extremely comfortable! My other joints do not experience any domino effect of this discrepancy because there is no damage done . Its’ important to get the original soles with the dense footbed that acts as shock absorbers to the bones. My daughter in law got me into them 15 year ago and I have never worn any other type of shoe since……she is a nurse and at her hospital thats all any of them use….the medical clog version…..even the doctors. Doctors at my hospital who operated on me , were gifted a pair by me after the biggest surgeries…..as a thank you. To the one, they said it altered their entire life to the good, as they all had knee or hip or ankle issues with the horrible long standing in surgery. I think they would help you too! Good luck!

Hi Terri! I am impressed with how well you have handled your pain due to hammertoes. Having them operated on has made all the difference for you. I suffer from hammertoes too. I did have my left foot operated on, and it was not successful—it got worse because of an error in the surgery. Where did you have your surgery? Was it at the Mayo? I would like to have each of my feet operated on soon to get out of my pain as well. I am still hopeful because I would like to dance pain free! Béla
