Thanks. I'm not sure. I will monitor over the next few months and see if there is a change.

@mr3143 Lori has given you great advice. I wanted to share my husband's experience of a bump that did turn out to be melanoma.

I was concerned because it had grown for a year and it broke through the skin. It was the color of a pencil eraser and the same size and rounded. Don't take that as a limiting criteria, because melanoma can be different colors. The dermatologist didn't recognize it on sight, it was only when the biopsy came back, it was a stage 2a melanoma, and suddenly he was on a fast track to surgery and a skin graft.

It was fairly large, so removal is easier if things are caught sooner when small. I learned that moles also go through stages as they become precancerous, and I had a similar one that turned out to be abnormal. He has had a lot of those removed too, but this melanoma did not start from a mole, it came from under the skin . If you are worried, a dermatology consult is your best bet. Most things can be easily removed in the office before it becomes an operating room event like my husbands did. He was lucky it had not spread, and genetic testing reveals he is at higher risk for cancers, so we remain vigilant.
