A month ago I was hospitalized with a perforated colon, abscess and sepsis. I was treated with IV antibiotics, followed by 30 days of oral. I'm having sigmoid colon resection surgery December 14. I'm trying to get an idea of recovery as I live alone and have two dogs to care for. From the answers in this thread, it sounds like I'm in for a rough couple months.... I'm worried.

What you experience during recovery will be nowhere as bad or dangerous as what you have already been through. Good luck with your surgery. Focus on healing, and all will be well. Recovery will take several weeks depending on your type of surgery and your age and health going into it. I have learned the hard way ( I am going on 6 weeks after surgery) that the biggest thing is to rest and be patient with yourself. Ask for help, and treasure your doggie friends because they are great healers and are pretty adaptable. I have two golden retrievers. Some days they only get out in the yard, and even though they would prefer to go on a walk, they still love me and are good for cuddles and pets.❤️ As my surgeon told me at my follow up appointment, in a few months I will see this time as a “blip on the radar” I hope he is right, but I am absolutely sure that the freedom from diverticulitis and all those antibiotics is worth it for me. Hugs.

I had a very similar experience with diverticulitis and am facing surgery in a few weeks. If you are still communicating in this group I would love to know how you’re doing now.
