Intravenous (IV) Alpha Lipoic Acid
I'm not talking about oral supplements. Instead, has anyone had experience with IV infusions of ALA? Would love to know protocol and results. I start IV ALA in 2 weeks.

I couldn't tolerate alpha lipoic acid, only R- alpha lipoic acid, and only half of the mg. of alpha lipoic acid. I've read article somewhere that 600mg.of R- alpha lipoic acid equal to 1200mg of alpha lipoic acid. Using seeking health one.
I use 2 to 4 capsules a day, depends on pain in that day. If I get reflux, which sometimes happens, I have some food, or just chewing gum or soda bicarbonate. Definitely helps with pain.
I think, it makes my hot flashes worse, and more grumpy 😠 😡, but it helps with pain! To make myself more enjoyable to be around, I take magnesium, which is brilliant for neuropathy too, anyway 😄!
I think my pain is triggered by sweet food, which I sooo love unfortunately 😔 😕! And wine too! My two bad indulgences for neuropathy pain. Then I definitely need more R-ALA capsules 🙃🙂!
Worth trying! Good luck 👍 💓
Thank you so much. I will try that. ALA worked great if I could keep it down. I sure hope R-ALA doesn’t upset my stomach. I appreciate the information you provided.
I can’t drink cause all my meds but boy do I love sweets. ❤️
Hope you are not diabetic, because ALA should not be used with diabetes medication, without consulting doctor first!
Also I take ALA with Acetyl L Carnitine - morning and afternoon, at night only ALA.
There's useful information on Seeking Health website 👍🤞
I am not diabetic. Thank you for the warning!
You mentioned hot flashes. Are your hot flashes from neuropathy? Have hot flashes and they started with my neuropathy. The doctors poo poo my complaint of hot flashes. Thanks!!!!!
Yes, neuropathy can be responsible for temperature changes, I have hot flashes or chills for about as long as my neuropathy got worse, about four years now. But it can be menopause too, but chills? Some supplements can give hot flashes too, I suspect alpha lipoic acid.
As some medications can cause it as well, but I'm not on any.
It's all there, just googled small fibre neuropathy and body temperature!
Causes everything! Hot flashes, chills, pain,....... you name it! 😭😡
What is ALA being used for ?
Alpha lipoic acid is a supplement that helps the nerves. There are lots of studies that have been done on the topic. Here are a couple...

lipoic acid (LA) and acetyl-L-carnitine (ALCAR)

Thank you so much for this info. I have been having stomach issues since April '22 also have hot spells. I spent 6 days in the hospital but they said they could not find anything differently wrong and I was sent home. I still have the same issues. I will try R- ALA. The doctors never mentioned that my problems might be caused by my neuropathy caused by a car hitting me in 1999.
