I agree - Tramadol is overkill for moderate pain. My hands, wrists & thumbs are pretty well worn out, but I still do a lot of art, fiber & craft work, so I use them a lot.
I tried CBD cream, and it helped. I find better relief from Diclofenac (aka Voltaren) cream or gel. It is an NSAID, but applied just to the painful areas. I like to rub it in to my hands and wrists, sometimes with an anti-inflammatory essential oil blend, then pull on a pair of compression gloves. They help the cream soak in and provide warmth & mild support. The finger tips are open.
Have you tried compression gloves to ease the discomfort?
