Chronic Pain on upper back right side.

Had my gallbladder removed 2012, was ok for the first couple of years, however since then I've developed a sharp pain not far from the right scapula blade, if I lie on my right side the pain goes, sometimes if I lie on my left it goes too, but much of the time if I'm standing at the sink to wash the dishes I feel it coming on.

I'm worried that it could be down to a few things, perhaps liver problems, pancreas issues, or an internal problem post cholecystectomy.

I also have kidney stones in both kidneys, however I still had this pain issue after I got stones removed some years ago which kind of looks like it ain't stone related.

Does this sound similar to any other member?

I was finally diagnosed with a large para esophageal hernia. Most ost my stomach was above my diaphragm. I had surgery March 22.

I was finally diagnosed with a large para esophageal hernia. Most ost my stomach was above my diaphragm. I had surgery March 22.

I had the same life threatening para esophageal hernia as you. Had it repaired in May 2020 and no problems since. My symptoms were spontaneous shooting pains through my back that would randomly come and go. I thought I had pancreatic cancer. I did all kinds of tests before the doctors finally eliminated everything else except this large hernia which I had had for years. The hernia surgeon knew right away. He also did a Toupet fundoplication at the same time to eliminate my acid reflux.

@warrendog Thank you for commenting. I am currently researching as I'm having symptoms similar to what you've outlined. You had mentioned a hiatal hernia then a paraesophageal. How did they miss that it was large and paraesophageal originally? I ask because I am not sure where to keep testing as I cannot find a diagnosis. Thanks in advance.

@warrendog Thank you for commenting. I am currently researching as I'm having symptoms similar to what you've outlined. You had mentioned a hiatal hernia then a paraesophageal. How did they miss that it was large and paraesophageal originally? I ask because I am not sure where to keep testing as I cannot find a diagnosis. Thanks in advance.

It was suspected to be a hiatal hernia, but the CT scan showed that most of my stomach was above my diaphragm.

I am - “they checked everything “ stage esophagitis
I am being tested for a number of things but mostly for the Gerd and it is related to my asthma, as well. I am struggling because the medication (carafate) has made for wt loss issues for me. Unfortunate….must be time to retire. But may need a job to afford my health. Thanks for your insoght

I feel pain in the upper level of the liver 24/7 after my liver transplant, doctor after many MRI keep telling me that it is scar tissues but after 30 month of my transplant? does anyone have this symptoms?
