Hi @becsbuddy, in May 2021, I started on 40 mg of Prednisone for an autoimmune disorder, Giant Cell Arteritis. I did a gradual taper and stopped taking it a few weeks ago. My bone density test showing osteoporosis, was done a month later. I don't know if the prednisone caused my osteoporosis, but after taking it one month, I tend to doubt it. I had a number of other risk factors. I have been taking alendronate for a year. I would love to get off it, though I have no side effects. Hopefully Dr. Loren Fishman's yoga program, "12 Poses vs Osteoporosis" will improve my bone density. Now my husband who has Alzheimer's also has osteoporosis. He fractured his hip in January after falling over a box. It's challenging to get him to take the alendronate properly, plus do exercises in addition to walking. I wish you the best.
