I have a lot of digestive issues. I was prescribed Xifaxan to treat hepatic encephaly. A doctor told me to stop taking it that I was cured. Sometimes you are sick of being sick so you follow advice that you know is wrong. Four months after stopping I was having odd symptoms-I would veer to left and hit the wall for one. My stomach felt like it could explode. My watch started tracking uneven heart rates and fall risks. I went to my cardiologist. He sent me to a neurologist. I had a slight stroke and ataxia. Many digestive problems have an inflammation factor. The Xifaxan does not harm your liver but helps control inflammation. I went thru my medical chart on some problems I had since stopping-every test and biopsy showed inflammation. I had nested chalazions on my eye removed-full of inflammation. EGD showed inflammation. On and on. I immediately went back to Xifaxan. My inflammation is controlled. Some of effects of the stroke are permanent. I never forget to take my Xifaxan. I blame the gastro dr for being reckless but I knew better than to believe her. Once again you have to be your own advocate and get a second opinion. So yes depending on your digestive problem it may help. It is a liver friendly antibiotic. Botox given during an EGD really helped me but it wears off yearly. How do you know it has worn off: you want to vomit but can’t. Weeks later it is yellow projectile vomiting and diarhhea. In the middle of the night I was looking thru old meds for protonix-I felt so bad I wanted to die. No more botox for me. I had an endo-flip—turns out I have a spastic digestive tract. It goes along with my spastic heart.

Well, we have tried literally everything else, so we're going to give it a shot. If it fails, it's off to Mayo Clinic to see if we can get it straightened out. Last resort.

I had no success with it. Hope it helps you.

I have tried it twice six months apart. I figured it was worth a shot. I still have issues, but it seems like the number of days that I have problems have been reduced (a small win). I am now going to see an Gastroenterologist for testing.

May I ask what kind of testing?
