How do you carry on with unknown digestive issues from day to day?

It's truly a struggle. But if you wake up in the morning and have no symptoms, it's a darned fine day.

@nazleer, sorry for your troubles. My GI issues are known (gastroparesis) but like @viv1953, I struggle. And if I do have some symptoms but they're fewer or less severe, it's a good day. Some days I just want to give up and stay in bed but I take a diuretic and have to get up anyway, not joking. If I stopped all meds and just stayed in bed it might take too long to die and I'd be even more miserable. I know it sounds dark but some days that's all that keeps me from giving up. Lately most days have been better so I keep on truckin'.

It helps to get everything checked out and get a diagnosis so the problem(s) can be treated and/or managed.

It is very difficult. .. and still is with knowing some of the causes.

To help: keep a journal .. what foods you ate .. your symptoms or non-symptoms from them. Do the same with any medications you take. Take note of how your body reacts to stress .. physical and mental.

Try eliminating some usual culprits of foods …. like dairy, gluten, sweets, greasy foods .. and do it one at a time. That way you know what you can eat and not eat. With me .. sometimes I may have a problem with a food and the next time not. Our bodies are just weird at times.

Read the literature that came with any prescription drug you take or look it up online if you no longer have those papers. … look up the side effects of non-prescription drugs you take too. Ask your doctor or ask your pharmacist about a different drug you can take if a drug seems to be the problem. Pharmacist can be a good friend in figuring out drugs … you could even be taking them the wrong way with your other medications.

Our digestive systems can change as we age. What we used to be able to eat we may not tolerate because of a disease or we all of a sudden become sensitive or even allergic to something we have eaten or a drug.

Best of luck in dealing with your issues.

It’s difficult, I haven’t done any traveling in over seven years. I hate appointments. Having to be somewhere at a certain time creates more stress and worry. Not every day is bad, but not knowing when a bad day will come kind of makes you a prisoner in your home. Diet makes no difference in my case. I eat the same small group of foods every day.

My GI issues are undiagnosed. I have had every test possilble and they all show fine. I am in my 10th month of being in bed because my pain is so unbearable.

Who do I see if the 2 GI's I have seen can't figure it out?

@nazleer - Have you had any testing done? What bothers you most? How does it affect your life?

I have severe upper abdominal pain. It hurts no matter if I am lying down, sitting up or standing. I have had all the imaging tests done and tried all OTC antacids, indigestion, IBS medicines and many prescriptions prescribed by two different GI doctors. Sometimes I wake up with pain but usually it gets bad around 4.

Hi,

So sorry you have this daily pain. I’m still in the process of figuring out the source of the daily pain. Some say to remove the Gallbladder others say no. I’ve lost weight as well. I’ve been Pushing to keep testing and repeat tests. Second opinions can help too. I’m in the same boat and it’s frustrating. Keep trying to get answers

I honestly don’t know I pray to God for strength and eat in small portions but more frequently with lots of water 40% soluble solids and 60% liquids works kinda for me. I’m still working with my team.
