Anyone do Tulsa Pro, newer laser ablation procedure?

Hi @michael1952, I think @poodledoc may have more information about MRI-guided Transurethral Ultrasound Ablation or the TULSA-PRO. It is only offered at select cancer centers like Mayo Clinic in Florida.

Is it an option for you, Michael?

In November of 2020 I had a prostate HIFU performed by Dr Scionti in Sarasota, FL. Happy with the results so far. Dr Scionti does both HIFU and the newer TULSA-PRO but for me recommended the HIFU. Cost was not a consideration, but the HIFU did cost $15,000 less than TULSA-PRO. poodledoc

What has been your result? Did insurance cover anything

I have my 1 year recheck with MRI in a couple of weeks. My PSA before treatment was 2.6 and has remained at 1.0 on my 3 month rechecks. I had a hemi-ablation so I still have 1/2 of my prostate. No urinary or sexual side effects. Medicare did cover about $5,000 which left me paying $15,000 out of pocket. I might add this is my second HIFU, my first being with an in-experienced doctor in 2018, and the cancer came back.

I'm considering the TULSA procedure for prostate cancer (Gleason 7). Anyone who has experienced the procedure, docs who performed it, and others with recommendations or comments are welcomed to respond. Thank you.

It appears that Dr. Dora does the TULSA procedure. How many of these procedures has he done? How does one get in to see him or seen as a consult?

James, you're right that Mayo Clinic's Jacksonville campus in Florida offers TULSA under the guidance of Dr. Dora and Dr. Frey. It is also available at the Rochester, Minnesota campus.

I had a radical prostatectomy in 2016.

For four years my PSA was in the .01-.03 range. Then in 2020 it started to rise.

In February I had a PET/PSMA scan at the University of Washington. My PSA at that time was .43

No cancer was detected.

Now I'm at 1.40 and I'm probably going to go back for another PET/PSMA scan. Waiting for another consult.

So, here's the question. Would any of the Tulsa type procedures work for me now that my prostate has been completely removed?

IF the cancer is located, and IF it's still in the prostate bed, would the Tulsa type procedures be able to impact the cancer?
