Can gabapentin cause muscle pain and cramps in arms & legs?
Has anyone ever had the experience of Gabapentin causing severe muscle cramps in arms and legs and muscular pain and feeling of weakness? I know it is supposed to basically do the opposite and help with muscular problems......but this has happened twice to me as soon as I started the gaba and it was very severe,

Hi @oliveiradms, it sounds like your son's experience with this rare cancer is very challenging. May I ask how old your son is? Is he still on gabapentin? Is his pain being well managed now?
I’m running into a few side effects that I’m not liking. Muscle cramps 9-10 10 being worst, muscle pain 6-10, shaking 10-10, clumsy 10-10, Blurred vision 9-10, lower back or side pain 15-10 yes that’s correct, many many more. Dosage 900mg 3X daily. I’m not sure if this part of the forum is closed as last post was 2020, if so can someone lemme know please? Thanx huge 🤪
Good afternoon @xant066, Welcome to Connect! This forum, Connect, is open 24/7. My understanding is that you are only taking about 2700 mg of Gabapentin a day and that is not doing a good job providing pain relief, or shaking relief, and many other issues. Is all of your pain from sports trauma and injuries?
Do you currently have a medical professional working with your health issues? Have you received any diagnoses? What other treatments or medications are you using?
I am here for you along with other mentors.

There is also a discussion thread ongoing [last activity less than a day ago] about gabapentin you might find interesting. Here is the link: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/terrible-reaction-to-gabapentin-300mg-cap/?commentsorder=newest#chv4-comment-stream-header
I was on gabapentin for a short time, and decided to wean myself off, with my oncologist's okay. The dose was only 300mg per day total. Yes, a very low dose, but due to failing kidneys, that is what we decided to have as a maximum dose [standard protocol for those on kidney dialysis] Seemed to me it just was not worth it!

I am a bit clumsy also and once in a while I'll have a charlie horse when I wake up. However, I'm on a different dosage. I take 300mg. at breakfast, 300mg. at lunch and 600 mg at bedtime. My doctor had me gradually work up to this dosage. Sorry it's not working out for you.
Mines, what I take, 300mg 3 capsules, 3 x a day. Back to my Lyrica 🙂 It was so fun with vicious cramps, specially waking up at 4am coming unglued screaming and yelling LOL
Yes totally out of control. Especially the oddest place too. my hamstring.
Yes, I've been experiencing muscle pain since being on gabapentin. It is in my shoulder and leg and foot. . I hope to wean off it once my spinal cord stimulator is activated. I was not told about muscle aches prior to starting gabapentin, but saw reports of this side effect in medical articles a few months ago.
Gabapentin has relieved my burning mouth/tongue syndrome, but now I have Dupuytren's Disease. My hand specialist says Gabapentin is not to blame, but there are so many articles from reputable sources that say it is to blame. If I stop Gabapentin, the mouth burning will return. I am at a loss. Do I choose a mouth on fire or do I take the only medication available to treat my burning mouth and suffer the side effect of having Dupuytren's disease. What to do? I have nowhere to turn. I do not trust the medical profession, as I never seem to get a straight answer.
Can you cite some of these articles? Muscle cramps (a less common side effect) and Dupuytrens (a thickening of tissue) are not the same thing.
I worry about people equating 2 things happening at or near the same time as one causing the other, when in fact it could be a coincidence, or caused by a different medication.
