I am extremely sensitive to cold, whether it’s from the seasons or inside temperatures. I had to check out of an ER once because the pain from the extreme air conditioning cold after waiting a few hours was worse than what I went there for. I have to really watch my car heat and air year round. So winter is definitely worse. I keep gloves in all jacket pockets, and a bag of socks, gloves, and scarf stay in my car so I have extra warmth when needed. Extreme heat is uncomfortable too, but I wouldn’t describe it as the intense, internal pain I get from feeling frigid. Gabapentin has helped me tolerate the cold and heat extremes better, but I try to avoid being exposed for too long, as it takes a while for my body to recover.

Hi Debbie. My feet get way colder now that it's fall. I use a small electric ⚡ heating blanket in the evening to help with it. I also use lidocaine 4% gel on my feet as well . I take 900 mg of gabapentin every 4 hrs from the moment I get up. I also use Ambien and melatonin to get to sleep and average 8 hrs each nite plus 30 naps after my am low impact workout and 30 min nap after my afternoon gym workout. These activities keep my blood flow good. I also use r alpha lipoic acid and Acetyl l carnitine and hoping to find the right dosage for my condition. Not all bodies are the same. I definitely understand how the cold affects limbs, nerves, muscles, etc. I find I try to find warmth and then once I have it try to keep it. If I can prevent the sudden temperature drops by regulating body temperature then life seems okay. It's when I can't control body temperature where deep pain is noticed and life seems to unravel which trickles into my mental state. I try to sleep more to brush the pain away but that doesn't always work either because being in a relaxed state now causes more pain. I think the winter presents challenges when it comes to staying warm. In the summer I'm good until about 85 degrees, anything more and it has the same effect as being cold.
