Too many cortisone shots will also start to dissolve tendons and ligaments. Most surgeons won't do more than 3 injections in one joint.

I never had shots in my hip …. I am still trying not to go that route…. Thank you for the info joe

Joe - This used to be true. Much smaller doses of steroids are now used, and decisions are mad based on the joint treated, span of time and dosage required. I had over 6 injections in my thumb joint over several years, and there was no marked deterioration when they finally did surgery.
