So thank you again
Thank you for all the comments, especially in response to that concerning my hip surgery (THR). It is my 11th day after the surgery, not the greatest experience, but your experiences, good or bad, helped me get through this. This seems to be the 1st day I feel any improvement, that's not saying much, but I guess it's saying something. So thanks again, I'll try to keep you posted about my progress. Took a shower today with the home health aid, I didn't need for her to wash me although she insisted on doing my legs and the brushing hurt but I didn't say too much about that. I did feel better for some odd reason after the shower, not sure why but she had to pick up my leg to get over the 6" ledge to get into the shower stall. It didn't hurt too much, but I am not sure I can do this yet by myself. Maybe the water from the showerhead was helping the swelling but I did feel better (slightly) after the shower. However, something is better than nothing, I suppose. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks again!

I kept the book, when I manage to get up from my recliner I'll certainly look for it. Yes, it was very interesting. I confess I didn't read it all, but I'm glad I read that part...because it explains why a question about what happened is passed over. And yes, some mistakes obviously could lead to lawsuit. One reason why I pray and also tease a doctor to tell him I hope he gets a good night's sleep.
Here is the title, you can find a description of it on wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intern:_A_Doctor's_Initiation
After reading the description, I think I will read the rest of the book as soon as I can. 🙂 🙂
If it weren't for the excruciating pain in my hip I never would have gone through with this. OK, so the hip is better but I still can't walk without a walker. However, it's the knee that's giving me trouble. Maybe in time it will get better. We'll see. All I can say now is that I hope the doctor gets a good night's sleep. 🙂
@cindiwass I just ordered it on Thrift Books, hardcover for $4.89. Thanks!
This may not be applicable here but I've always been told to use cold (ice packs or other) to prevent swelling for the first 24 hours after an injury.
Then, assuming there is no infection (important!), switch to heat to help heal by increasing circulation, helping muscles relax, etc.
One exception would be a
dual approach situation such as rinsing with warm salt water after oral surgery but using cold packs against the cheek or jaw to prevent swelling.
Hello y'all again. I've been so horribly busy and/or tired. I'm not exercising like I should be, but I do try and walk and do a few leg stretches. I'm going to the surgeon for the 6-week aftermath visit, let's see what he says. Who knows? First time I'm seeing him since the operation. He's a good surgeon, the office is good, BUT -- he's so busy. Yesterday I called to have the time pushed up, they accommodated me because my husband is sick (I think it's dementia plus not being willing to make changes in his diet, I'm always worried about him) and I'm often tired and pushed down emotionally. But we keep trying, I read the Bible and work on having faith and listening to God (by that I mean obeying as much as possible). Anyway, just to let you know my hip seems to be improving, I'm usually walking with a walker, sometimes not too often with a cane, my knee is the thing that is giving me trouble, but I'll let him tell me what's happening. Thanks for all your attention!
Sooo, here's what the surgeon told me. He said the x-rays showed perfect alignment of the whatever. I am having less pain in the hip area. He also said that the knee is reacting to the operation and he said it would calm down in a month or two. I hope so. He gave me another 8 weeks of physical therapy, I like the therapist very much, he kindly massages the area I guess to enhance the circulation. OK, that's the story up to date. The knee swells up as the day progresses, but that may be because I drove and walked a bit today rather than keeping the leg up, which I'm doing now in my recliner chair.
Thanks again for reading, hope this helps me and others.
Hello again everyone. I didn't want to leave it at that, so here is a follow up to the THR operation. I found a very good physical therapist who takes the time to knead my muscles gently for the most part (sometimes it hurts) and although it's about 2 months since the operation, it's coming along slowly, little by little. But the excruciating pain is gone by the hip. I do still have pain, mostly when I lift the leg, also the knee is bothering me. I had an operation many years ago on my knee and I think it's suffering as a result. But little by little I am getting better, although I still walk with a walker most of the time.
