IBS: How to get rid of or ease the symptoms?
I have tried about everything to get rid or ease the symptoms of IBS. I have had a colonoscopy, celiac test, ultra sound on uterus, endoscopy, food allergy test, etc. I had my gallbladder removed and that helped some. I have tried probiotics, dicyclomine, imodium, colestipol, staying away from wheat and corn products. Right now I am taking Aloecure and that isn't helping. Nothing seems to help ease the symptoms. Imodium will take care of the diarrhea when that is the problem but I still have to deal with multiple bowels movements and feeling of still having to go all day long, every day. Does anyone have any other ideas of what a person could try?

I drink apple juice to counteract D. The pectin in apple juice is what makes meds like KaoPECTate work. Not too much A J or you will be constipated. It works for me, and might for you.
I am still learning. However, I have found taking dicyclomine 20 mg 3xper day a lifesaver. I also am trying the Low Fermentation Diet/SIBO diet from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. I searched on line for IBS/ SIBO diet. I still have a lot to learn. I have found that less fiber is better than more.
Dicyclomine taken as prescribed has brought peace to my intestines. No more bloating, cramping and only intermittent diarrhea.
Also eating white bread, french bread, italian bread, sourdough bread are all fine.
It is an easy diet.
IBS-D plus SIBO is challenging. There is no cure but I am getting more good days than bad now.
Please keep all informed on the SIBO diet. Someone mentioned it to me as well. My doctor prescribed Colestipol 1GM twice a day and I am not experiencing diarrhea at all anymore. I do also take anti anxiety meds Sertraline & Buspirone that helps with the anxiety which will aggravate IBS-D.
I agree. Change of diet has no effect on me either. I find stress gives me diarrhea. It is simple things like going to a doctors appointment or going to play Pickleball. I always have to know where the bathroom is. I’ve been living with us for five or so years now. I take Metamucil every day. It seems to help with going to the bathroom at the same time every day. But then again, I could have a day where I go eight times. I’ve tried everything. Lactose Free diet, gluten free diet it just doesn’t seem to matter. I am thinking about finding out if there’s some kind of medication I an take for anxiety.
Have you heard of the FODMAP diet? It is often recommended to people with IBS. I undertook the training under a dietician’s guidance. As a result I learned about which foods to eat in smaller amounts and a very few not to eat at all. It has really helped my gastro problems. If you are interested be sure to talk to your primary care provider or dietician first.
My doctor yesterday recommended peppermint capsules, so I will give it a try.
Yesterday, my dr. recommended trying peppermint capsules. She said quite a few people are experiencing relief. Of course, I know everything doesn't work the same for everyone, being an herbal enthusiast, I do know that. I've just ordered them.
What foods or other contribute to IBS?
The Monash University FODMAP app is an excellent source of information re IBS.
I’ve just started gut directed hypnotherapy. Too soon to tell for sure, but I do think it is helping. It is great to talk to a dr that actually “gets it”!
