Anyone on Pluvicto (Lu 177), a new drug for prostate cancer?

Posted by dedehans @dedehans, Aug 20, 2022

My close friend has had Pluvecto treatment suggested to him by oncologists. It is relatively new, having been approved by the FDA in March 2022. Have any of you been given this drug? I have read it is radioactive material and patient needs to stay away 6 ft from others for at least 3 days so as not to contaminate them. He has not yet decided whether to take the treatment or not as he is feeling awful enough as is.

The biopsy is your best bet for sure. Sounds like you have a knowledgeable team and are in good hands.

While this not a particularly helpful report on the clinical side of Lu177, it is a testimonial of one patient's experience with the treatment. I hope it is helpful for at least some who follow this discussion topic.

My friend's prostate cancer is too advanced in his body (bones, soft tissues), and he has been determined to be too weak for the pluvicto treatment by his oncology team. He is electing to do hospice as he is in terrible pain.

I thank you all for your helpful and encouraging posts on this topic I started. Hugs to all.

Thank you Colleen. I shall wait and see future responses. My friend is in the decision mode now. The cancer has metastisized widely and this may be a hope for him. I will post here if I hear he is going to try it.

I saw your comment regarding your friend and looking at pluvicto. My husband just started on this Aug 25 at Duke. In an abundance of caution we are sleeping in different rooms through his treatment. He is having a side effect that’s not listed in trial participants which is a horrid itchy rash that’s been impervious to Benadryl or OTC cortisone cream. Doctors are baffled as it’s not a side effect listed.

Thanks for mentioning the rash. I will be starting Pluvicto in about 3weeks and knew of other possible side effects. At my first nuclear medicine consultation I will be discussing side effects and will bring up the possibility of a rash
