My mum was diagnosed with stage 1 cancer of the throat yesterday. She is 87yrd and I am scared of her life if she is to go for the cancer treatment. Is there a possible way that she will make it through?

Hello @kobzlee and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I sure am sorry that your mother is going through this, and empathize with your feelings of being scared.

I have moved your post into an existing discussion on esophageal cancer to allow you to better connect with other members who have had experience going through their own journey, or supporting someone in their life life you are now with your mother. What is the diagnosis so far that she has received?

I think so !
Ask the doctor about the impact of anesthesia (if there is a surgery) and opioids (morphine) = I understood that was bad for elderly.
But my friend who is a cardiac surgeon operates on 90years old (depending of the general condition)
