I asked my daughter who has her patients in the ALFs in our area and she says there are all kind of music all day in the background. Most of them also have visiting musicians and a piano in the main space where they can go to listen to different music. Apparently any music ,for most is soothing.
My son in law who lives across the breezeway from me is a big jazz lover or anything upbeat so he has wired the entire house and garage with speakers. I love to hear it and he frequently leaves it on for the dogs during the day. It is not intrusive......just a lot of fun. Gets me to dancing around the house lol. We also like big band and blues. I will occasionally listen to the oldies station on my tv. I saw Louie Armstrong in Manhatten once, when we were younger. He was standing outside a club taking a break and we were leaning out of the window yelling "Satchmo" .
For the most part....most of the residents in the assisted living facilities tend to like the background music....like elevator music if you will. I do believe that it is a great mood enhancer which is essential for some of the residents. I know, my toes get to tapping when I hear it. Any music makes you happy as long as it is not too too loud. I also know the neighbors like it when they host parties out on the patio.....up until 11 pm then its either turned way down or turned off.
My family and I have danced in areas everywhere when we hear it and other people just love it. One person starts moving and the rest follow. Grandkids have been doing this since they were little and the youngest is now 20. One is a little reticent about it but the rest are gun ho.
FL Mary.......I'm gonna stomp right now lol

Thank you Mary!
Hmmm...
Okay then. Over here so many homes either don't have music or have something local simmering in the background, this sometimes really makes me nervous because it's not my musical style at all. I suppose I would prefer jazz, world music, occasional 'house', active dancing music yes, all sorts of music really. I suddenly wonder if it would be fun to post a link to a favourite song here so others could listen to it. I am not sure about the savviness of all users though, some may find using YouTube or even, gulp, Spotify a bit daunting!
