Brother-in-law was diagnosed with Stage 4 squamous cell pancreatic cancer in May. Has had 3 months of chemo. Most recent scan shows no further growth and possibly one area slightly smaller. He has lost some weight, appetite is not as good as it use to be, is fatigued after chem but has experienced no nausea. Does not have any of the symptoms associated with pancreatic cancer so far. Is 73 years old and still working part time.

He is going to continue chemo for the next 3 months. He is experiencing extreme swelling in lower legs and feet. Anyone have any suggestions to help? Wears compression socks, is taking a diuretic and tries to keep them elevated.

Make sure to eat plenty of protein, use protein supplements and shakes if needed and drink plenty of water. Avoid salt if it's a problem. You want to minimize the weight loss during chemo. The better the metabolism the more easily the side effects are handled.
