Intravenous (IV) Alpha Lipoic Acid
I'm not talking about oral supplements. Instead, has anyone had experience with IV infusions of ALA? Would love to know protocol and results. I start IV ALA in 2 weeks.

Thanks.
I’m wondering if acetyl L carnitine is ok with R- Alpha Lipoic Acid. I notice you take ALA. Anyone else out there tried these two?
I take Acetyl-L-Carnitine 500 mg in the morning and evening along with other supplements including na-R-ALA (600 mg in the morning and evening). Both are the in the Protocol 525 along with other supplements shown to help neuropathy. I posted my story in another discussion here - Member Neuropathy Journey Stories: What's Yours?: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/310341/.
I do take R- Alpha lipoic acid only, not ALA, together with Acetyl-L-Carnitine for a couple of years now.
You can google about benefits of taking them together.
Or you can always try to use them separately, or just R- ALA.
I find that only R-ALA makes me hungry, Acetyl-L-Carnitine takes the hunger out. Can manage my 16-18 hours fasting on most days.
Do you still have the swelling in your feet? You said the swelling has gone down from your ankles……wondered if any improvement in the feet?
Also, do your feet feel like you’re carrying around 5lbs. on each foot? I feel like I’m dragging extra weights around on my feet when I walk.
@jchet, Yes I do still have mild swelling in my legs and feet but it's not from my neuropathy. I also have lymphedema and have to wear knee high compression stockings daily which controls the swelling. Also, my feet do feel a little heavy most of the time. I have difficulty walking for any distance due to my lower back. I haven't been diagnosed but believe I probably have camptocormia which is forward bending of the trunk. My wife has been telling me I walk like an old man for 20+ years and now I am an old man 😂
Thank you. You’re a good mentor for all of us bearing life with SFN.❤️
I was wondering if anybody ever had the side effect of their legs aching. I was taking 600 Milligrams twice a day, but lowered to just once a day and that's helped.
Welcome @sklhdknks1966, I take 1200mg R-ALA capsules daily but have no side effects of aching legs unless I overdo exercising that day. I'm happy you've found something that helps.
It sounds like you also have neuropathy. Do you mind sharing a little more about your diagnosis and how long you've had neuropathy?
