Anyone on Pluvicto (Lu 177), a new drug for prostate cancer?

Posted by dedehans @dedehans, Aug 20, 2022

My close friend has had Pluvecto treatment suggested to him by oncologists. It is relatively new, having been approved by the FDA in March 2022. Have any of you been given this drug? I have read it is radioactive material and patient needs to stay away 6 ft from others for at least 3 days so as not to contaminate them. He has not yet decided whether to take the treatment or not as he is feeling awful enough as is.

@dedehans, this is such a new drug, I can see why your friend is reaching out through you to see if anyone has had treatment with Pluvicto (lutetium Lu 177 vipivotide tetraxetan)

@leebeth mentioned that her husband will started soon or has started and perhaps @rso too. @norske46 also has been looking into this treatment.

Dede, you're right that there are warnings that accompany this drug regarding cumulative radiation exposure to the patient and how to minimize radiation exposure to others after receiving Pluvicto. You can read more here: https://www.drugs.com/pluvicto.html#warnings

I hope your friend feels better soon.

Thank you Colleen. I shall wait and see future responses. My friend is in the decision mode now. The cancer has metastisized widely and this may be a hope for him. I will post here if I hear he is going to try it.

My husband received Pluvicto yesterday, with post treatment scan this morning. Top notch team here at Rochester Mayo. We could not be more impressed.
The rules and restrictions have eased somewhat; as safety monitoring has indicated that it is safe to do so.
Primarily, precautions need to be observed around pregnant women and children under 10.
Precautions continue with bodily fluids, closing toilet lid before flushing twice, etc.
It really isn’t inconvenient. At home, he will just use a different bathroom.
He tolerated it just fine, with no fatigue or other side effects at this point.
He is drinking copious quantities of water, as instructed.
We are very hopeful.
Best of luck to you, and if I can help in any other way, be sure to let me know.

Long wait time for Pluvitco in my area. Novartis rep said 4 to 6 weeks is the norm. I was told 6, but it's been 2 already and no updates. I didn't want to do the cabazitaxel, but am going in the morning and remaining optimistic.

Carbazitaxel is easier to tolerate than docetaxel for most. No hair loss!
Best of luck to you.

Thanks @leebeth for your report on Lu177. I have been told I am not ready yet for the treatment. As of today I am holding my own having had Eligard for 3.5 years, 44 radiation treatments, zolodronic acid infusions every 3 months, bicalutimide and enzalutimide, Radium223 treatments and docetaxel. Not sure how long I will hold steady. PSA is starting to rise but other indicators are holding steady. Bone scans are especially positive. I appreciate all the information on Lu177. It is very helpful. My decision time is now down the road a bit.

That’s wonderful that you are holding your own for so long! You are very fortunate! My husband has been on docetaxel for 6 cycles, and carbazitaxel/carboplatin for 8 cycles. Degarelix and now Orgovyx, simply for convenience.
6 fractions of SBRT to prostate, and palliative fractions to hip, spine, shoulder.
Now on Xtandi to help with PSMA expression to help the Lu-177 do it’s best work.
By the time you are ready, we will know so much more!

What does it mean that my PSA continues to rise despite taking two doses of Pluvicto?
