knee replacement 3 yrs February 2023

I had a hard fall on my knee after replacement. I felt fine because the TKR itself had been awful and after the fall it was easier to walk. This was a year after surgery. New doctor took an X-ray, said “no breaks”, and that was the end of it. It’s two years since surgery and other knee needs to be done but I’m so scared to do it thinking my peripheral neuropathy may be why first knee was so bad and still is not good. Wishing you all the best for your knee.

I wouldn't put off the second knee if you need it. I've had both of mine replaced within the last 5 months. The first one is nearly perfect. The second one was done July 11 and I'm struggling with stairs. But it's early. I'll stick to PT nd try to not over do it. One thing I read that was impactful - the healing inside goes on long after the incision has healed.

One suggestion - look into TKR with a surgeon who uses the Mako robotic assistance. "Robot" isn't a good term. A 3D picture of the knee is taken via CT scan and that is how the "robot" determines what to cut and where. It results in a more accurate surgery and prosthesis placement. I think it's fantastic.

And maybe get a second opinion form a Dr who uses Mako. Worth a try.

Hi, Joe. I’ll give a bit more background. I was supposed to go home the following morning after the surgery. It didn’t go that way. I was in the hospital for three days and couldn’t move any part of my leg. I was thinking about how I would live with a prosthesis. Then at three o’clock in the morning, I moved my toes. They quickly sent me off, in the middle of the night, to a rehab. I spent two weeks there and it was at the time Covid was beginning. I elected to go home early and continue rehab at home. That had to stop several weeks early because of Covid. My surgeon retired immediately after my post-surgery visit which he had never mentioned to me prior to surgery. My knee never felt right. His partner took over but was a hip specialist not a knee specialist. And didn’t do much. So after the fall I got up with no pain and felt that the knee piece had shifted somehow making it easier to walk with it. Sorry that took so long.

So sorry. It sounds like something was amiss in your medocal care. Hope you find a solution.
