Hi Sue @sueinmn, Which brand/model stand alone unit do you have? I'm looking to get one for our bedroom to help with cleaning the air up a little and helping with dust.

Thanks for any tips/suggestions you can provide?

Honeywell Insight Series HEPA Air Purifier - we have them in MN & TX. I chose them for their consistent reliability, quiet operation, widely available standard filters. The "raters" don't always rank them at the top, but they are easy to use, tell you when the filters need replacement, reasonably priced & it's easy to replace filters. My daughters have different brands, both quite a bit more expensive. One always has trouble finding their filters in stock, the other has to clean the inside because it does some kind of "magic" with a washable, reusable prefilter and water before it gets to the HEPA filter. We have several, from the smallest to the largest, sized for the rooms they serve. All use the same filters, just in different quantities. My favorite is the one that automatically adjusts its speed to the air quality in the room (probably the 5350?) Best of all, they are available at Target & Menards as cheaply as on line.
