Peripheral neuropathy and sciatica: What helps with the pain?
Hi guys, bear with me...Started out with cramps in shins and feet, then came the numbness, tingling. Hip pain = bursitis, cortisone shot fixed that, but, I still had sciatica. Ortho sent me to a anesthesia doctor. First shot lasted 2 months. My ortho suggested surgery to fix a couple of nerve root. I smoke, he suggested a stimulator. My appointment to discuss treatment is in August. I'm dying over here with only tramadol to take. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone experiencing pain tried peripheral nerve implants? I recently read an article about a Doctor who joined a nearby Center for Bone and Joint Diseases and he performs this procedure. For an article on this procedure go to

I have constant severe burning in My right foot , mostly in the toes. My legs feel heavy and I have some discomfort in the calves and some in the hamstrings. My lower back has been a problem for awhile. I had two surgeries on the toes of the right foot. Two areas in 2016 and two areas in 2018. Not a good outcome for either surgeries. my pain is constant about a 4 to 5 during the day and later in the late afternoon and evening to a 6 or 7. So, for the past several years I cut a large 5% lidocaine patch in half and wrap the toes with it. and then put medical tape around it , then put on a sock and then an ice pack to numb the pain several times before getting some sleep. I do have issues with the lower back L4, L5, S1, arthritis and probably sciatica. I've tried RFA and epidurals, oxycontin, tramadol, medicinal marijuana. Nothing really helps. I have read about MILD, minimally invasive lumbar decompression. I have an August 10th appt. with a neuorsurgeon and will bring up the MILD treatment and see what he thinks. I think the lower back and sciatica is contributing about half of the burning in the toes and the weakness in the legs.
Bless you and zi hope all goes well and you get relief. I have similar issues with my back and ilon the 13 started having similar problems in my right leg. I have tried lidocaine patches, lidocaine pain creme, ibuprofen,. My regular pain meds won't touch the nerve pain. I am going for imaging soon. God Bless You!
Thank you! Good luck to you.
I’m taking Cymbalta and gabapentin 3 times a day. No relief. I hurt constantly and if I could shot you the bidet of what happens after my second dose. It horrible. I do take Quetiapine at night to sleep. I, also, have GERD and my doctor wants me to take Famotidine. But that has a NSAID in it and causes neuropathy. Anyone know of something for GERD that doesn’t effect neuropathy?
I believe for some people with peripheral neuropathy the estimulation will be beneficial. For others with chronic PN due to chronic spine conditions it may not but it sounds promising.
What was your diagnosis for your sciatic pain? If it’s a spinal disk issue be cautious with too many cortisone injections which accentuate bone destruction, if that’s the issue. PT is an absolute with sciatic pain and a therapists can most likely provide you with a great home exercise program to treat and prevent further problems, if not too late.
Please accept my comment as caution…taking Serequil for sleep is not recommended and very bad medicine in the elderly. Please check this out and be safe. My mother in law at 93 was put on this for sleep too and she fell twice and fractured C2 and lived to 97. https://www.webmd.com/drugs/2/drug-4718/seroquel-oral/details#:~:text=This%20medication%20is%20used%20to,psychotic%20drug%20(atypical%20type).
Is Quetiapine the generic name?
I swim everyday
Early morning at my gym Olympic size pool
Usually I am the only one in the pool
It’s very meditative
Try to join a gym with a pool, and use a kick board if necessary to keep your legs and feet moving in the water
