Does anyone know of a medication to relieve symptoms of IBS?

I agree. I have found a diet that takes away my symptoms. However, I started taking dicyclomine for IBS. So far I have received relief from chronic abdominal pain. I still have urgency(I wear a pad so I can go out) and fecal leakage.
My colonoscopy last week was visually clear. Now waiting for biopsy results to see if I have micrscopic inflammatory disease.
I have been struggling with this for years. I have pretty much given up on a cure.

Microscopic colitis is the worst, especially since some Drs don’t take it seriously. Also if they do not biopsy a cell that has it will not show positive.

Theres a really good set of pages on the NHS about IBS. Even includes a dieticians video and an app you can use if you like. The FODMAP diet really has helped me. The initial pain was so severe that I was being sent for scans in case it was appendix or ovaries trying to explode on me again! When the pain gets bad I use Buscopan, which can be available on prescription. When I am taking a break for a holiday etc, and want to relax the diet a little, then I use peppermint oil or tea, or sauerkraut or other probiotics. The probiotics that are best for you, depend on if you have IBS type C, D or A.

I have collagenous colitis, similar to microscopic colitis, and yes the doctor must find it through a biopsy, otherwise the bowel looks normal. A good doctor will do a biopsy and diagnosis you properly.

Ive tried the capsules, which are handy for when out, and straight peppermint tea or a green tea peppermint blend. All seem helpful, especially if the tablets are taken before a meal and the tea just after.

I drink hot peppermint tea every day and couple of times a day. I is very soothing. I also drink ginger tea. It’s very good for you too. I’ve stated taking IB Gard. It’s also peppermint capsules you take before meals 3x a day. My gastroenterologist suggested it also. Over the counter and can be bought in bulk on line.
If any one has had REAL success with the FODMAP diet please let me know. My doctor told me he has only had 1 patient that washable to stay on it for 6 months and then gave it up.

Hi Sonny27-
What you’re going thru sounds like the same issues that I go thru everyday. Nothing I’ve tried has helped me. I just bought a bottle of “ IBS Clear”. I’ve read a lot of good reviews on it. I hope it helps. My stomach gets really bad after lunch. I’ve left restaurants & got my meal to go because it was bad.
I’d love to know if anyone has tried something and got some relief from it.

Please let us know if this works. Did you doctor suggest it?

We as patients have to quit looking for a miracle pill and start taking our lives back. We need to change what we put into our bodies and claim responsibility for our ways. I know no one likes to hear that but it is a fact !! I am now on a antiinflammatory diet and has been working very well. Also check meds if on any and their side affects. I am now off meds and enjoying life again. I take a 25 mg cbd gummy each morning and follow lifestyle change. Walking does wonders to keep system working properly too. Hope you decide to change things and not reach for another pill ! God bless !!

There is a natural and safe supplement that I take that soothes colon pain, gas, constipation , and diarrhea.
It is peppermint oil/ginger,fennel combo...its sold at cvs in the colon area marked " peppermint oil for ibs"... it is very soothing for the nausea and stomach pain.
Please ask your Dr 1st please though, even though it's just natural herbs. I don't want to be in conflict with what rx they give you.
Also...and this I know for a fact bc it's coming straight from my gi Dr....probiotics work big time...but you have to give them a good 2 weeks to take effect. High count...15 billion....multi strain...put in fridge once opened.
Also..yogurt..fermented foods.
Look up colon friendly diet. What we eat, or TRY to eat , which can be hard, is extremely important. We need to give our gi system a chance to heal...avoid all fatty foods....it hates them...avoid gluten..most people with gi issues can't break down gluten...even though they might not necessarily have celiac disease. I have chrohns disease...and was told to my surprise people with that can't break it.
Also...we become nutrition deficient...I take glucerna sent to me from my nutrition dept.at the VA. It's low in sugar, easy on the stomach, and gets those vites and protein back into u.
Yes...plenty of water too. Yes.
And ginger chews helps nausea 2.
I've thrown out all I can think of 4 now to try and help....I hope it makes a difference. Be well. Peace.
