Tapering Off Gabapentin

I have been taking 1200 mg per night for about a year now, and its been working very well for me overall. The only thing is--sometimes I feel it is a bit too much in terms of feeling groggy during the day, etc. and it takes me a while to get going and fully wake up.

I want to try decreasing to 900 mg or 600 mg over the next 6 months or so.

I currently only have 300 mg capsules. Would it be hard to try dropping to 900 mg from 1200 mg capsules (my doctor initially suggested that) but I am worried that 300 mg for one titration interval is too much.

Is it best to get 100 mg capsules for a taper? like dropping 100 mg a week or every two weeks?

Only problem is that then I would be taking up to 12 capsules a day for a while...

I had been on Gabapentin with 1200 mg and gradually degrecreast dosage to 900 mg.When I saw my neurologist he suggested blood work first then decided 900 mg would be good.I am less dizzy now with the lower dosage and take 300mg in the morning rest at bedtime .Yes lower the med by 100mg once a week.Get both the 300mg and the 100mg to decrease the dosage is best
