RADIO FREQUENCY ABLATION (RFA) - KNEE

Posted by patriotmarine @patriotmarine, Jul 5, 2022

Greetings. 🇺🇸
In lieu of a hyaluronic injection, which normally provides 6 mos pain relief, opted for RFA on R knee, to evaluate if RFA provided longer pain relief. Procedure was 063022. Any of you using RFA on your knees, and if yes, what have been your results?

I hope you get great results. I had radio-frequency nasal cartilage remodeling a few years ago and it was a successful the same day. It's nice to be able to do deep yoga breathing and no longer take meds, which didn't work anyway as I had a structural, not medical, problem.

Hi @patriotmarine and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. @dandl48, @lizziemnz and @sandytoes14 have talked about RFA so I'd like to invite them to join the conversation.
What results are you experiencing so far?

@patriotmarine, I have had a few RFA treatments on my Barrett's esophagus and dysplasia at Mayo Rochester and now in Phoenix. The RFA is painless and it does its job on Barrett's but no guarantees that it won't come back. Good luck.

Very interesting re RFA for BE. I also have BE. Will discuss with my gastro Doc.

Re: your comment…RFA is painless…that was not the case with RFA on my R knee.

Sorry about the pain. Where they do a resection, that's when it's painful, at least for me.

Also sorry to read about the pain. The RF protocol I had didn't involve any tissue that was inflamed or painful so that might account for me easy time of it. Here's hoping for great successful result...

Each person’s knee issue(s), and regimen to experience pain relief, will differ. Have you used hyaluronic acid injections? If no, try it. If you have tried HAI, w/o success, talk to your Ortho doc and a pain management Doc, re: RFA.
