I have Gastroparesis .. the post operative type.. where some of the nerves that surround the stomach were damaged and my stomach is slow to empty.

@sandphil

I don't know if you still check this site as your post was from 2019. However, I am wondering if your problem ever went away or do you still have problems with it. Thanks,

With my post operative gastropanesis it Never gets better.. the nerves that surround the stomach were damaged.. they don't regenerate. So every meal is a challenge to keep down.. so I have to eat small amounts frequently.. the best I feel each day is when the stomach is empty.. when I am hungry I must guard against eating too quickly.. even ice cream can be rejected.. I take Mertasapine to make me think that I need to eat.. as my Mayo GI doctor said.. good luck.. I'm 85 now.. staying slim is not a problem but gaining weight is a normal concern now..

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. However, your letter doesn't sound real encouraging. I believe my gastroparesis is from my surgery also. My hiatal hernia had pushed my stomach up into my chest cavity and it was sitting on my lungs. I (a total non-smoker) have COPD and that was complicating matters. Aging is not a fun process. I am 77 and I lost a lot of weight too. I will be seeing a nutritionist tomorrow to help me figure out my new diet and life style. I am from Sauk Centre MN, where do you live?
May God bless you and allow you to enjoy life the best you can.

I live in Ames, Iowa.. My Gastroparesis was caused by a Nissen that was supposed to reduce GERD,,, The surgeon here in Central Iowa was not good.. Mayo gave me a way to cope.. I had lost 50 pounds in 2 months.. Good Luck to you.. Go to Mayo..
