What helped you make treatment decisions following DCIS lumpectomy?
I had a stage 0 grade 1 low grade. Decided against radiation. Little difference between reoccurence percentages. Spoke to oncologist today about hormone treatment. I am 67 yrs old and working. Recommended that I take anastrozole if I do not have bone loss problems. If I do it will be Tamoxifen. I will decide soon. My greatest concerns are quality of life and side effects, which I've read comments about them here. It's a tough decision. What was helpful in making your decision?

I am glad you persisted even though that had to be a hard thing to go through. How are you doing now? Are you undergoing any other treatments?
No treatment. Did not really want to go through reconstruction, but did and it's under my muscle. Left breast. Still confused, because it hurts and then need another surgery to remove the expander. any thoughts and comments
I did not have a mastectomy so I cannot comment on that part of it, but there is a thread you should ask this and there are a bunch of folks who will find you there, it has been quite active a few times, and although you have already had the mastectomy they will have tons of tips.

Do you have family helping you get through such a difficult time?
I had similar test results, but did radiation. I have decided to not take tamoxifen. I do have other health issues … heart attack 4 years ago, AFib, two types of neuropathy & a husband who isn’t well. The side effects of the med scare me more than the chances of the recurrence of the cancer, which are low. I wish you all the best.
I’m sorry you had to go through having three surgeries. I’m dealing with the same thing. I had two lumpectomies in April and now a mastectomy tomorrow. You have a wonderful attitude and perspective. I hope to emulate that. Thank you.
What is EO?
I'm assuming she's referring to "essential oils"?
I have double lumpectomy a year ago . No metastatic .
Having AFIB ( irregular heart beat)
decided against chemo and/ or rad.
At 80 years “ yonge”I don’t think much about cancer reoccurrence in 5-10 years. And if it occurs sooner, I will deal than.???
Based on my health conditions, have found that Tamoxifen is the better approach for now.
No side effect so far.Healthy eating, active life style !!! And regular check up!!
Going through chemo and radiation is necessary if cancer metastatic .
It still no guarantee for full recovery, and it influences quality of life.!!
Everybody have potential to develop the cancer. The question is - when.
Hi Volkswagen ( nice name for cancer fighter )
Have you had any heart problem before? Tamoxifen is
affecting blood clotting,
The blood thinner should help to prevent stroke.
The platelet count in the blood test should be under control.
On contrary, Tamoxifen has positive effect on heart functioning , as oncologist said Still, everybody is functioning differently .
I switch to 10 mg instead of 20 mg
Thank you.
