Ron Schlicht thought the chronic pain he'd been living with in his right leg was never going to go away. That began to change, however, after Ron came to Mayo Clinic and met the care team in the Pain Clinic.

Ron Schlicht lived with the effects of meralgia paresthetica for years. "Depending on the day, it would give me different sensations," he says of the chronic pain in his right thigh. "Most of the time, it was very painful if something would rub against my thigh. I do a lot of air travel for work, so I was always brushing up against other people. It was just very uncomfortable."

The condition wasn't a problem just for Ron, but for those close to him, too. "When you're in chronic pain, you brace yourself for it at the start of each day," he says. "That unknowingly makes your body and mind tense. My friends and family were telling me I was becoming edgy and quiet, and that I'd get irritated easily. I was always so focused on trying to ignore the pain and live with the fact that there was nothing I could do."

I had the Abbott trial done in November and it worked. So in December I had the permanent implant and it is not working. My back pain is almost gone except for the shooting pains I regularly have at the site of the implant (generator) and my legs and feet hurt even move than before. The rep for Abbott has had me change the setting several times with no improvement. I see the doctor again next month and hope I can get some kind of help. I don't know if the Abbott implant is the problem or if something went wrong with the surgery but I hope they can find a satisfactory solution because I am really tired of all the pain.

I understand your being tired and frustrated. I hope they can adjust your stimulator and help you find relief. My back is worse and the stimulator does not help the problems I am having now. I am in the process of getting a pain pump which is my last hope. Don't give up yet.

Team in pain... Good morning and please let's ALLOW PRAYER TO BE A DAILY MOTOR, yes a motor is turned ON EVERYDAY.

Much rather hear my colleagues say am praying too much...... Than agree?

I do very little of it BUT I TRULY ASK FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO HELP ME pray.

I had Ketamine Iv’s and has awful allergic reaction to it. Found out that’s bc the K activated my Mast Cells to release Histamine and a Tryptase all over my scalp, legs and areas of back. Monday I’m going to see an allergist for testing and recommendations.

I see the doctor in a couple of weeks and hope he can figure out why the trial was so successful but the permanent implant is not.

I have read that this has occured more than once. However, I have read where more people have had success with the stimulator. So we'll wait and see. Hope the Doc can figure out why the permanent implant to perform has hoped for.

Hi friends in pain. Me? More you can imagine. A 10 all day.

You are adding another dimension to your issue which I can truly see why... BUT
Please look into the HUGE ASS PC OF HARDWARE BEING USED : IMPLANTED...

Talk to others 1st.
Hearing them out will enable you to decide one more time.

my pain specialist has been pushing on me for 2 months.

I FINALLY TOLD HIM TO IMPLANT IT ON SOMETHING ELSE.

I TOLD HIM THE FEEDBACK I HAVE IS NOT EVEN 90% ++++
So why have HIM OR ANYONE IMPLANT A DEVICE IN MY BODY.

I swear to all you, HE WALKED OUT MY 2-3 min office visit in 4 mins.
