I can't recall the details from my thyroid cancer because I wasn't given much explanation and I was told I had to have my thyroid removed. I wasn't given any treatment choice. With the breast cancer, I had lump removal, was misdiagnosed, went to an oncologist who removed more margin and did a lymph node removal to verify that the cancer did not involve the lymph nodes. The readiation burned my skin badly so I had three days relief and treatment before they continued the radiation.
I was diagnosed with a paralyzed vocal chord 18 months after surgery on the thyroid and they said it was too late to rehab my vocal chord with therapy. They offered more sugery. I declined. The vocal sound has returned somewhat after many years, but doesn't have a pleasant voice sound. I can't rejoin the choir to sing. I don't worry about more cancer at my age. I eat an excellent anti-cancer diet and get what exercise I can manage.

Regarding your paralyzed vocal chord…..you might want to go to an ENT and ask if you might benefit from Botox injections into your vocal chord. From what I understand, they inject the Botox into the paralyzed vocal chord so it plumbs it up; so when you speak the other vocal chord can meet it instead of leaving an opening. I seem to recall reading about other medications used to inject paralyzed vocal chords too (instead of Botox). It might help your voice and enable you to be able to sing again. Good Luck!
