What’s a reasonable amount to do in a day?

I cracked up with your comment about ignoring the front door if you’re not expecting anyone!! 🤣. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve hoped people can’t see me making a shadow behind the peep hole! And now our front door has those side lights, darn it!! No hiding!
Years ago I was a perfectionist with trying to keep the house neat. So much stress from trying to be freaking Martha Stewart! It was tough with a child at home, working several days a week, tending my ailing mom and husband’s parents, being a school mom/committees, etc..
So, I started getting a little more kind to myself.
I changed my perspective:
Dust is now a protective covering. 🤣
Leave the vacuum in the foyer near the front door. If anyone comes, you can say, “Oh pardon the mess, I was just cleaning,”
If you have a dog, toss a ball under the bed. Dogs are great for gathering dust bunnies. Then have the dog shake outside.
Same way for cleaning the floors! Spill milk. Leaves a nice shine and the dogs and cats are happy.
A little Mrs Meyer’s lemon verbena cleaner in the sink with warm water makes the whole house smell good!

Ok, obviously I’m kidding but we really do have to shift our priorities sometimes. It’s difficult when we can’t do things for ourselves anymore and have to rely on others. Being creatures of habits and routines, it’s hard to let go!

You are fortunate to have your daughter be able to help out and I can sure feel the frustration when she maybe doesn’t get something done in a timely manner. Going through all my cancer hoopla the past few years, my husband took over most of my chores for a while. He did great but wow, what a challenge for me to not blurt out, “That’s not the way I do it!.” 😩 It was better to just keep my lips zipped and be grateful the deed was done at all. Oh and the weeds in the flower beds…oy. That was another thing that made me cringe! They weren’t on his radar! But he was happy to grab some of the bigger weeds if I’d point and say, “Pluck!” Now, I happily walk around the yard with my pokey weed stick and do it myself again. But being laid up was indeed a lesson in patience!

I am sorry to hear that therapy isn’t available to you right now but you know what? There’s always someone on Connect, ready to sit and ‘chew the fat’ around the kitchen table. Ugh, where did that expression come from”.
Anyway, I’m happy you’ve joined us!

You mentioned your brain feels rattled today. What is something you enjoy doing that relaxes you or brings you joy?

Hi Lori,
LOL about the vacuum at the door. I always said, Oh pardon the mess- Just in the middle or rearranging. After 11 years it doesn't really fly, but I don't get that many visitors. It's been nearly 20 years of changed abilities, and I still can't accept my limits. I hate the way I'm living. My son and grandsons are visiting in August, and I doubt it will be enough time to get things organized!
Recently I have begun to use my sewing machine again and cooking more meals. Those things either frustrate me more as I have to relearn abandoned skills, or bring me a sense of fulfillment. Watching the dog and cat's ever changing dynamic is usually entertaining. They have a love/ hate relationship, or I should say a tolerate / hate relationship. My beagle is a help with spills in the kitchen:) . I am looking forward to making all my Gami ( grandma) treats for my grandsons. I've always been a do it yourselfer, mainly out of necessity and cost effectiveness.
