Has anyone had the top of the trochanter fractured off during hip replacement surgery? Seeking information on what was done to resolve resulting pain.

Hi @sus34, I searched Connect and did not find a member who has discussed trochanter fractures during hip replacement surgery. You will notice we added to the discussion title to hopefully bring in any members with experience to share more about their experience. I did find some information on the topic.

Have you discussed the pain with your surgeon to see what can be done?
Thank you and Yes, I Have seen doctors about the issue. All have differing views on how to handle, so was hoping to hear if anyone has experience with this
on 3/2/22 I had my femur fractured during surgery and a surgical "zip tie" was used. I'm suffering many odd symptoms and am waiting on a metal allergy test (MELISA) from Germany to try to figure out how to fix my problems. Have had CT scans, MRIs but nothing shows the problem. I have a very unusual taste/odor in me since then in addition to severe fatigue, blurred vision and fogginess in my head. The hip/thigh is still very sore (stabbing pain and burning inside). I've tried to find if anyone else ever experienced this to no avail.
I hope you get relief from somewhere or something. This is terrible. I have often wondered about an allergy to metal. I have rods, plates, pins and stainless steel cable ties in my leg where there was a double break on my femur. I am getting infrared treatments now. 5 years, still pain.
Thank you! I'll update now that they received my bloodwork for the MELISA test in Germany (thank you FedEx!) -- should know in 10-14 days whether there is an allergy and I have a new ortho surgeon to address going forward.
I had a hip replacement on Feb. 20, 2023. I feel I was forced to go home too early as I was sent home on Feb 23. I fell 5 hours later and got 3 greater trochanic fractures. Plus a lot of other issues. Now it's Oct. 4, 2023, and after having the fluid removed from my hip and luckily no infection, my surgeon showed me the CT of my hip and the fracture pieces are making a bone! That's causing my pain. I have to go to PT and have the scar tissue massaged out but it will always be there. I will learn how to do it myself. Plus, the surgeon said a cortisone shot might help with the pain. Has anyone else ever had this?
Thank you.
