Here is the chart showing the effectiveness of masks by type (cloth mask vs. surgical mask vs. N95 respirator mask) and showing the minutes/hours to contagion between two people depending on the type of mask they are wearing (or not wearing!)
I would add that not enough is said about the fact that Covid is mostly an airborne disease travelling on droplets and aerosols. And aerosols can remain in the air for several hours in indoor spaces not well ventilated. So, one can actually catch Covid by going into a small poorly ventilated space where someone sick has recently been.

Unfortunately, the difference in masks effectiveness is enormous. If one has real health issues, one has a false sense of security with a cloth mask. If I can find the chart, I will post but there was a comparison about how long it takes to catch Covid depending on mask type.
I am well aware of the difficulty of some in wearing a mask. I have lung cancer, coronary heart disease all with breathing problems, so I really suffer when wearing my N95. But then again it is because I have such problems, I have to wear an N95 mask. I had lung surgery five months ago and isolated myself and still caught Covid. And the variants are always more contagious. When I am in cardio rehab I switch to a surgical mask (which has ear loops) because my oxygen level goes down too much otherwise. But people there all have to wear a mask and are vaccinated as they have health problems. I try to walk outside where I can go without a mask. OTHERWISE I found a N95 mask on Project N95 that has more room inside it so it is easier to breathe. Project N95 has several "new models" of N95, I saw one without straps -
