Feedback on Linzess for Irritable Bowel-C or Chronic Constipation

Posted by sue225 @sue225, Mar 9, 2019

I have both of the above-conditions. Took Linzess, (called Constella in Canada) and got terrible stomach pain. Feeling desperate and thinking about trying it one more time. Interested in hearing what kind of experiences other people have had with linaclotide/linzess.

Had colonoscopy prep type reaction to 145 mg of linzess. Took it three alternate mornings with same reaction. Doctor told me to discontinue and go back to M.O.M. when needed and a 250 mg magnesium oxide at bedtime which helps with restless legs and gets "pipes" moving. She told me to hang on to the linzess in case things come to a halt and then just be prepared to spend the day at home or as long as it takes to clear. I use a glycerin suppository at times and an old fashioned enema occasionally. Having a colonoscopy tomorrow and another SIBO test in September. We shall see that that yields. Was positive for SIBO in January - the flagyl to get the numbers down gave me oral thrush. No medication is perfect. Fortunate that Hershey Medical Center is 10 miles away and has the only SIBO testing equipment in the greater area. I think Linzess would work ok in a smaller dose than I took. Other caution is to drink a lot of water.

Hi everyone, I was on Linzess but it no longer works for me. I already have chronic pain and I know that my pain can knock me out and also cause me to become irregular. I am currently using trulance myself however due to other meds interacting with each other. I am currently struggling with irregularity due to that issue. I now know that I may have to switch to another med now. I am not really fond of this. I am considering discussing natural methods for this as well. I know that I am lactose intolerant and also have an issue with gluten and wheat in general.

Hello all! I wanted to comment on the use of Linzess. I have been using it for years now, but have had to figure out a combination of strategies in order to avoid the side effects mentioned in these previous posts, all of which I have struggled with. I have a cumulative history of surgeries and adhesions to maneuver around. My goal is to get the liquid into the stool evenly from the very get go, and avoid pooling of the stool at any point.... very tricky!!! I have had extraordinary pain/nausea episodes, which motivated me to combine strategies. The linzess is a good tool, but requires other tools in combination, in order to be successful in my case. I am using miralax and linzess (145) daily, in combination with a pescatarian diet with limited grain, and being careful with the residue loads (of the legumes and beans primarily), of what I eat. It has reduced the pain episodes dramatically, and man Am I grateful for that!!! It takes energy and attention, as well as a schedule of quiet time set aside for the system to work. But it IS working, and IS worth it. I hope this helps others who struggle with these issues, because it can be so debilitating! I love meat, but I dont miss it. Vegetables have endless possibilities!
Cheers!

I use a dose of oral Magnesium supplement at bedtime. As well, in the morning I drink a “smoothie” of blueberry juice, berries, a bunch of kale, and a dose of powdered Purelax (polyethylene glycol). Having added the kale recently has really helped, in a good way.

Purelax is the less expensive CVS brand of Miralax. Also, I am gluten sensitive and have Sjogrens Syndrome. It is my belief that with Sjogrens, I have little saliva, which does not properly lubricate the esophagus and then the gut. I also have intestinal adhesions from a previous breakthrough into the gut from Motrin.

I have chronic constipation and a redundant colon along with nerve damage to the Celia Plexus nerves. I have found that switching out the different laxatives work. I used Linzess for 5-6 months. Then it stopped working. Same with Murelax, Lactulose, and Amitiza. It’s always a challenge!

I use Plecanitide, can’t remember the commercial name. It works better for me than Linzess

Just started Linzess for bowels that don't move. Have done miralax and metamucil for years but they are a hit and miss. Hoping the morning diarrhea will go away soon from the Linzess. Feeling tired of it all after dealing with this for 9 months at least. I am 79 and healthy otherwise. Bowels just don't work on their own. Had a diverticulitis surgery 5 years ago and no gall bladder!

My latest combo is Amitiza twice a day with Motegrity every 2-3 days. I ration Motegrity because of cost.
Motegrity for motility is for me a more “civilized “ treatment than using laxatives.
I never know if laxatives are going to do anything or cause a volcanic eruption!

I have a tortuous colon and ibs-c. I’ve been prescribed linzess for several years now but it does NOT help. It’s sooo frustrating. I end up taking exlax when it gets to where I’ve tried everything else this will work but my stool often comes as diahrea with a lot of undigested food pieces . Although sometimes it just comes as solid stool that amounts to a large amount.

I know it’s terrible for my intestines to use these stimulant laxatives. I pretty much never go normally
