Off the southern side of our house, I watched a family of quail as the babies are learning to fly. They have a hidden nest in the tree just over the property line. This morning Mom was on the ground on our side, Dad was literally on the fence. The three babies came down to the fork in the tree, the first two bravely flying from tree to fence, then down onto our grass. Mom rewarded them by feeding them bugs and such. The third little one stayed in the fork of tree, for a long while, too unsure to go further. Once they had gotten up their courage, a short flight down to the fence, then ground! Everyone was happy until the scrubjay came along to harass everyone. Daddy quail took him on, and chased him off.

One of the does birthed a set of twins, and yesterday we saw them for the first time. Grasses in the back lot are so high we almost couldn't see them!

@johnbishop Hi, John it has been a while maybe last year. Love the birds. With the barn cats, I have very few birds to watch. I can watch the hay grow and soon it will be time to put hay up for the winter and the yard grass keeps growing with all the rain. The mother cows and spring calves love all the cool weather and the lush grass to graze. I have had a long journey since last I looked out the window. In March I went to the ER and just return home two weeks ago. It was a hard time for me always so active on the farm and never a sick day. I went from the hospital to rehab and then extended care. I guess my body was in total fatigue and said no more. So now I look out the window and look at all I should do in the garden but really need to rest for now. Thanks for all the great pictures. I really enjoy them. Hope to visit again but not so long in between. Take care and will be looking out my window. KLH
